Yes. A student currently studying in Class XII is eligible to appear for IOQM 2026. However, once a student has passed the Class XII Board Examination, they are no longer eligible. This applies even if the student has taken a gap year, is not enrolled in any college, or intends to reappear for the Class XII examination for improvement of marks. IOQM 2026 is the first stage of the Mathematical Olympiad programme conducted at the national level. The subsequent stages are the Regional Mathematical Olympiad (RMO), INMO Training Camp (INMOTC), Indian National Mathematical Olympiad (INMO), International Mathematical Olympiad Training Camp (IMOTC), Pre-Departure Camp (PDC), and the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO).

IOQM 2026 will be conducted in offline mode using an OMR answer sheet.

No, there is no negative marking in the IOQM 2026 exam.

Traditionally, Mathematical Olympiads reward out-of-the-box thinking and the ability to reason logically rather than extensive mathematical knowledge. Familiarity with basic concepts from Number Theory, Geometry, Algebra, and Combinatorics is helpful (Calculus and Statistics are excluded), but success typically depends more on clarity of thought and problem-solving ability. The syllabus is based primarily on foundational concepts in the school curriculum. However, the problems are designed to test logical reasoning, creativity, and mathematical thinking rather than routine application of formulas.

You may register either through a registered Centre or individually through the online registration portal. Detailed registration instructions are available on the IOQM 2026 website. https://ioqm.mtai.org.in/.

IOQM 2026 Examination Centres are available only within India. Students residing outside India who are eligible to appear for IOQM 2026 must travel to India and appear at an Examination Centre located in India. Such students may select an Examination Centre from the available options during registration.
Note: Students residing outside India will be considered under the Delhi (NCR) Region for RMO selection purposes.

The registration fee is INR. 180/- for students studying in Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) and Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs). For students studying in all other schools, the registration fee is INR. 300/-.

Yes. Students pursuing home-schooling or open-schooling are eligible to appear for IOQM 2026, subject to fulfilling all eligibility requirements and submitting the necessary supporting documents. For detailed eligibility criteria, https://ioqm.mtai.org.in/documents/elcrIOQM.pdf.

IOQM 2026 Examination Centres are located only within India. Students residing overseas may appear for IOQM 2026, provided they satisfy the prescribed eligibility criteria. Such students must travel to India and appear at an Examination Centre in India. Students residing outside India may select an Examination Centre from the available options during registration. Students are advised to carefully select their preferred Examination Centre during registration. Requests for change of Examination Centre after successful registration may not be entertained. Once the hall ticket has been issued, no requests for change of Examination Centre will be considered.

Wearing the school uniform is not mandatory.

If a payment-related issue occurs close to the registration deadline, students should contact the Helpdesk with the transaction details for verification and further guidance.

Students will be provided with an edit facility through their Student Login to correct information submitted during registration. The edit facility is tentatively scheduled to be available from 03 August 2026 to 05 August 2026. Any changes to the schedule will be notified through the IOQM 2026 portal. For further assistance, they may contact the Helpdesk.

If you do not have a school ID card, you may upload the current academic year's fee receipt or the previous academic year's marks card as supporting documentation.

The hall ticket will be made available through the Student Login. Notifications will also be sent to the registered mobile number and email address.

You may retrieve your enrollment number through the Student Search facility using your registered mobile number. Alternatively, you may contact the Helpdesk for assistance.

If multiple payments have been made for the same registration, please contact the Helpdesk and provide the payment details along with supporting screenshots. Eligible refund requests will be processed after verification and completion of the registration cycle.

Payment verification may take up to 24–72 working hours. Until verification is completed, the payment status may continue to appear as Pending. Once the payment is verified, the status will be updated accordingly.

Students should keep the following documents ready while registering:
1. Photo: Passport size - File size between 10KB to 100KB
2. School ID / Latest School Fees Paid Receipt / Last Years Report Card: File size between 50KB to 250KB
3. Aadhar/Passport/Birth Certificate: File size between 50KB to 250KB

No. Students should register only once for IOQM 2026. Multiple registrations may result in cancellation of the application.

The list of registered Examination Centres will be made available on the IOQM 2026 portal. Students may also search for Centres during registration.

Students may select an Examination Centre from the available options during registration, subject to seat availability. However note that such requests may be denied for operational reasons and decision of the exam committee will be final in this regard.

Once the approved capacity of an Examination Centre is exhausted, students must select another available Centre.

Yes. Students must carry a printed copy of the hall ticket.

Reporting time and examination schedule will be mentioned on the hall ticket. Students are advised to reach the Examination Centre well before the reporting time.

The Regional Mathematical Olympiad (RMO) and the Indian National Mathematical Olympiad (INMO) are stages of the Mathematical Olympiad Programme in India. RMO is the second-stage regional examination; the best-performing students from RMO qualify for INMO, the national stage. These stages are part of the selection and training pathway for India’s participation in IMO, EGMO and APMO, subject to the eligibility and selection criteria notified each year by HBCSE.

No. The only fees you pay is for participation in IOQM. In fact, your travel expenses for some some of these training camps and all international participation is also borne by Government of India.

Asian Pacific Mathematics Olympiad, is an annual regional competition for high school students organized as a a mathematical competition for countries in the Pacific-Rim Region, including India. Every year, one of the countries serves as a coordinator for this competetion and each country sends an official representation of upto 10 students. The advantage of this competetion is that it is held in centers across the participating countries and no international travel is required.

European Girls Mathematical Olympiad is an yearly competetion for high school girls which welcomes participation from across the globe. Every year, one of the European countries hosts the competetion while each country sends an official team. Each country sends a team of upto four girls.

International Mathematical Olympiad is the oldest and the most prestigious yearly competetion in mathematics for High School students. Every year one country hosts the competetion. Last year (2025), 110 countries send officially participated in the competetion. Each country sends a team of up to six contestants.
